Guild Wars 2 Item Upgrade The process of upgrading an item, often referred to as “upping,” improves an item's stats. Each upgrade increment increases the stats linearly. There are item upgrader of upgrade components available in the game, such as universal upgrades, inscriptions, and jewels. Universal upgrades, like gems and enchantments, can be placed on any equipment, and offer less than equipment-specific upgrades. Glyphs are only available in gathering tools. They provide a variety bonuses, ranging from boosting the speed at which an item gathers to providing extra crafting material. To upgrade an item, select it in your inventory, then open the Upgrade window. The window will show a preview on the right side of the screen that shows what the expected stats are after the upgrade, and any materials or components required. If you don't possess enough of either the two, the Upgrade button will show as Blocked. The number of upgrade components required for a specific item is displayed in the upper-right corner of the Upgrade window. The cost of an upgrade increases with the level and rarity of the item increase. However you can cut down on this cost by purchasing upgrades from a vendor or trading them with other players. Almost all weapons can be upgraded by the use of a prefix upgrade for example, an insignia or rune, and a lot of them can be upgraded with a suffix upgrade. These upgrades change the name of the item, adding an adjective, such as 'Radiant' or 'Minor Vigor. The only exceptions are the non-inscribable weapons, such as shields and foci from the Prophecies and Factions campaigns, which are not upgradeable with any kinds of mods in any way. Glyphs Glyphs can be used to convey information via visuals. They animate in order to draw the attention of the viewer and entice curiosity. The glyphs' animation mimics the body language, making them more effective in transmitting a linguistic barrier-crossing message. Glyphs also evoke a sense of familiarity in the brain, increasing retention of the message. Each glyph has a set of values that it could increase a stat's value in the form of an item when you open the glyph in the Glyph Storage or when you use them to enchant an artifact. This range is not the actual amount by which the glyph will increase the stat, but rather the maximum value by which it can increase a stat. The actual value of the glyph is determined by the quality and tier of the item you are enchanting it to. Most upgrade components slotted into items are not able to be repaired or replaced without dismantling the gear in question, with the exception of legendary equipment and upgrades. If you have a rune or glyph you don't want to use, but it hasn't been incorporated to gear yet, you can move the item to a different piece by selecting the Upgrade Glyphs menu on the Glyphs Panel. This will create the new Glyph Set with the selected glyph. You can remove the glyph using the Black Lion Salvage Kit, or an Ascended Salvage tool. This will destroy the item in which it is installed but you will be able to salvage the upgraded item with the glyph and its shards therefore it should not be considered a loss. The addition of a glyph to an item can cause it to become unstable and the shards that are left of that glyph will disappear from your inventory once you remove the item. You can also place a glyph on your equipment to give it a bonus. For instance, the glyph Deferred Damage can store damage for the wearer and distribute it slowly instead of all at one time. This can be helpful for those who take a lot of damage from enemies but don't want to be overwhelmed. Reroll tokens Reroll tokens can be used to change the affixes of equipment and weapons. They can be obtained from many sources, such as mysterious boxes or rare drops from skulled monsters or by killing bosses. Each reroll provides the player with a random affix that is usually better than what they had before. Reroll tokens can also be a good option to reroll stats on weapons that can be upgraded to increase damage or perks. Items that have been rerolled may not appear in the item upgrade menu, but they can still receive upgrades. These rerolled items can be recycled by pressing the “upgrade” button which alters the layout of the item window and allows up to six items to recycle. The level gauge is increased by recycling an item. This amount is determined by the rarity of the item and its level, therefore items with higher levels are more useful to recycle than lower-level ones. Players can also use Reroll Tokens and Star Remnants to roll rerolling Weapon Traits to upgrade units. Rerolls roll the % chance of a weapon trait. If it is higher, the weapon is upgraded, and if it rolls lower, it remains unchanged. Weapons can be repeated up to three times. Rerolling is a fantastic method to improve an item. However, players must be aware of the fact that the total ilvl is diminished by the number of the rerolls required to bring it to the final ilvl. This effect is most evident on Diadems and Rings, as they have no other options to raise the ilvl. Players have complained that the reroll system is too expensive. It's better to allow players to pay for it with money or food items that allows them to make changes to their builds without having to invest excessive amounts of time. The developers have no plans to introduce paid rerolls at this stage of the game's development. Instead, they're planning to include an ability to change races in the future. Leveling There are many ways to upgrade an item. The first method of leveling up an upgrade to an item is to increase the upgrade amount. This increases the upgrade value for the stat. The second option is to boost the effect of the upgrade, which boosts the damage or healing of an individual stat. The base item can be upgraded to a more advanced upgrade type. The new item will retain its iLevel, but have the upgraded effects of the upgraded item. It is important to keep in mind that upgrades can be random. For instance an item upgraded from being a rare or exclusive item to an extraordinary one can be expected to gain the Enhanced Defence of the new base item.
